SOUNDS/NOISES "From Island to Island"

Sound art showcase curated by gift_, whose business is designing places SOUNDS/NOISES for CET23 ●An exhibition by sound artist/improviser suzueri. Post-coronavirus is a record of movement and sounds from her traveling to five countries from late 2022 to 2023. She has created an automatic musical instrument called “For the Birds/Bird Notation Method,’” which uses scores of flocks of birds from all over the world, including seagulls on the Sumida River in East Tokyo, as well as sound objects made from small objects she has picked up on her travels.

Photophone - Let's create a device that listens to light.
A "photophone" is a primitive device that converts the wavelength of light into the wavelength of sound. After a workshop to assemble the visible light communication device kit, participants will take the device into the streets of the CET area and conduct a "listening to the city lights" tour.

suzueri
Sound artist/improviser. Combining a piano and a self-made device, he performs and exhibits a roundabout and restless feeling. She is concerned about the gap between the interaction of tools and instruments, their physicality, and the narrative that arises from that gap.


gift_
In 2005, he started working as a design unit called "gift_" in Ebisu, Tokyo and opened a gallery shop called gift_lab as a laboratory and a small place for cultural exchange.
Toshikazu Goto designs space and furniture, and Fumiko Ikeda handles project curation and styling.
Since the early 2000s, he has actively participated in projects such as TDB (Tokyo Designers Block), CET (Central East Tokyo), DesignTide Tokyo, etc., simultaneously transforming the city's gaps into galleries.
After the Great East Japan Earthquake, he started "Yamanoya" in the Echigo-Tsumari area (Tokamachi City, Niigata). Three years later, he also moved his base in Tokyo to Kiyosumi Shirakawa and is currently practicing a double local life in these two bases.
